Reiki for Your Pet

Reiki healing is one of the best gifts you can give your pet. Our fur kids too love to receive a share of this beautiful universal light. In fact they are more attuned to the healing energy of Reiki that us humans. Therefore, they receive it fully and more effectively. Your little buddy cannot express in words what he or she wants. If you notice that they are in pain in addition to going to the vet you can give their furry bodies the chance to heal itself by giving a Reiki treatment. I have two dogs of my own who love reiki. I also have various other animals like birds coming near me to get their share of Reiki.

Reiki is a very gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice. Originally from Japan, it promotes relaxation, healing, and creates emotional balance in animals.

  • Relief from stress and anxiety. Specially for separation anxiety, fear, trauma
  • Additional healing support during illness and surgery recovery
  • Management of pain

What happens during a session?

The healing has to be conducted in a quiet, calm space where the pet feels comfortable and safe.
The duration of the session will depend on your pet’s own needs. It is typically 15-45 minutes
Depending on how your pet reacts, the therapist may decide whether to use touch or a hands-on method.
The pets may decide on how much Reiki they need. They might sit and relax, sleep, or even walk away.

Reiki for Your Pet – when to consider

  • After an injury or surgery
  • Your pet shows signs of emotional distress
  • Introducing new family members, other pets
  • Home relocation. Palliative care – end of life

Location for the healing :

  • Visit the practitioner’s space
  • Request for a home visit (additional transport charges apply)
  • Distance healing – pets react very well to distance healing, too. During the distance healing, you may have the practitioner online on Zoom. Some may actually watch the screen during healings, feeling the energy.

Reactions to Healing Sessions

  • Calmness
  • Lay down, close eyes, fall asleep.
  • Full body relaxation
  • Slow breathing
  • They are receiving the energy well and entering a healing state of mind.
  • Walking Away or Moving AroundPets may walk away during a session. They may return after a while. This may be their way of testing the energy. Pets instinctively know how much energy they want. We have to respect their boundaries.
  • They may even want more physical contact
Touch the healer’s hands, lean in
They might position themselves under the healer’s hands or lie on their lap.
  • Stretching, yawning, licking, and shaking. This could be energy release or emotional/physical tension leaving the body. A good sign that the energy is working.
  • Some pets may react with excitement and hyperactivity to the unknown source of energy. This is their way of processing.
  • Deep sleep after the session could be their way of integrating the energy into their body.

Testimonial

This is Trishy, our beautiful 13 year old girl. She is the most loving, energetic, happy and kindest friend I have ever had. In 2017 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery. It was Tharanga who helped Trishy with  long distance Reiki. I know Trishy really felt better and her pain reduced after the sessions. Tharanga continued to send Reiki to Trishy through out her 10 month battle with cancer.
So a heartfelt thank you Tharanga for making my girl happy again. She is no more in pain and smiling at us as she is chasing butterflies in doggie heaven.

Animal Reiki healing sessions could last for half an hour, one hour or sometimes even 15 minutes. Pets usually need less Reiki than a human and will know when to walk away from a session. Be prepared for a short discussion about your pet before the session so that I can customise the treatment depending on their needs.
